Whole-Heart Assessment of Turbulent Kinetic Energy in the Repaired Tetralogy of Fallot

Approximately 10% of congenital heart diseases (CHDs) include Tetralogy Fallot (TOF). Fortunately, due to advanced surgical techniques, most patients survive until adulthood. However, these require frequent monitoring for postoperative complications leading hemodynamic alterations. Turbulent kinetic energy (TKE), as derived from 4D-flow magnetic resonance imaging (4D-flow MRI), has been used characterize abnormal hemodynamics in CHD. Hence, this study aimed assess the difference TKE between with repaired TOF (rTOF) and healthy volunteers. A total 35 subjects, 17 rTOF 18 controls, underwent standard-of-care cardiac MRI research using a clinical 3T scanner. Heart chambers great vessels were segmented 3D angiograms MRI. The was quantified within volumes. compared standard metrics. Controls demonstrated higher left atria ventricle. right atria, ventricle (p < 0.05), pulmonary artery. Lastly, no correlation observed measurements. can be key indicator present assist future interventions help monitor long-term outcomes.
